Apple’s latest Operating System, OS X 10.7 Lion is now finally out, available exclusively via the App Store.. This new OS has powerful new features that the Mac Faithful have been chomping at the bit for…. In the excitement of upgrading to Lion, we like to caution all users to follow the First Commandment of computing: Backup, Backup, Backup..

Your computer hard drive is spinning at upwards of 7500 times per minute (even more in some cases)… There is a very small threshold between normal operation and total failure. Putting a hard drive through its paces (with something like a major software upgrade) can push that hard drive over the limit to where it is stressed too much and fails.. Sure, the numbers are small in terms of how often that happens, but that won’t make you feel any better if you are one of those people it happens to.. So make sure to backup your system before you upgrade to Lion and continue to do routine backups from that point on… Apple has it’s own software, TimeMachine for backups, and there are some great, full-featured backup software titles like Data Backup from Prosoft available too….

If you do jump into installing Mac OS X 10.7 Lion without a backup, and something goes wrong, then take some precautions as you try to navigate out of a bad situation.. Don’t just reinstall the OS again– that can write over your files and you could lose many pictures, emails, documents, etc… You can use a product like Data Rescue 3 from Prosoft to recover/copy your files all over to another drive first… If you have any questions, just contact our support team, we are here to help!– Yes, our support team is based right in our home office in California and they work directly with our software and recovery engineers to provide you with the best computer recovery options…. If your drive has some simple logical problems, our award-winning software will probably do the trick for $99… If your hard drive has a more severe hardware issue, then our award-winning hard drive recovery service is here to help too!
