Today I helped a customer who had a failing drive and was using the Free Trial of Data Rescue 3. He had tried running a Deep Scan on his external hard drive but began to get warnings from Data Rescue 3 for slow read access and cloning was recommended. He was not sure if he should ignore the warnings and continue the scan or to cancel the scan and do the clone. I guided him to starting the clone as the warnings could indicate a failing drive.
The clone he ran reached about 96% and then stopped making progress. I suggested that he stop the clone and begin to run a Deep Scan on the clone. He was able to complete the scan and he recovered all of his files to another drive. He was very glad that he did the clone using Data Rescue 3 because shortly after that, the failing external hard drive had completely died and it was no longer accessible.
