Netware Client For Mac OS X

NetWare natively using the IP protocol

Built completely from the ground up, this OS X Native client allows your Mac to communicate on your Novell Network with Pure IP eliminating the need to propagate AppleTalk® on your local area network.

NetWare Client - Features

Integrated login: The Mac boots with a single login prompt and the NetWare home directory appears on the desktop. This means, no need to remember multiple login passwords and to login twice each time you boot your computer. Note: User uses the Directory Access configuration to enable NDS login.

Contextless login: The user can login from anywhere on the net by simply providing his username and password, full context information is provided automatically. Note: An administrator sets up a text file with a valid list of contexts.

Printing: The NetWare Client 2.0 supports printing to a netware queue (users can add jobs to Netware print queues and delete those jobs). Note: This is implemented as a plugin to Apple's print manager with a custom interface to browse the print queue (and delete your own jobs). This feature includes legacy NDPS support for queueing - full NDPS not supported

Universal Binary: Works with all the latest Macs including the Intel Macs. The client application is compatible with Mac OS X 10.3.9 or 10.4.2 and later. Only the integrated login requires 10.4.2 or later.

Completely new browser: It is now a regular application instead of a menu bar item. It automatically launches in startup if the user chooses that in login items.

Simple To Use

  • Mac OS X client machines need only the IP protocol to access the Internet and local network services.
  • Servers can be located dynamically, statically, or both. The "Automount" feature can select which volumes to automatically mount on login.
  • Eliminates the Need for Apple® Specific NLMs NetWare Client for Mac OS X - IP Edition works without having to install any additional software on existing NetWare 5 and 6 servers. This reduces or eliminates administrator intervention.

Features include:

  • Support for files larger than 4gb on servers that are running NetWare 6 SP3 or later (NSS volumes only) NCP packet signing for enhanced security
  • Directory mount-root support (allows a sub-directory on a volume to be mounted as if it were the root of the volume on the client).and allows billions of volumes and directories
  • File system ACL support (for viewing trustee rights)
  • Background SLP resolution and less memory usage allows for much improved application response times.

RSA Secure Login: Genuine RSA Encryption - Using NDS, the Prosoft Native IP Client uses industry standard "Genuine RSA Encryption" to ensure login authentication. RSA is recognized as the de facto industry standard for cryptography.

NetWare Client vs. Native File Access: By default, Novell® Native File Access uses Apple File Protocol for authentication. Native File Access does not send a password to the NetWare server. Instead, the client generates a random number based on the password and then sends that to the server.

  • The Prosoft Native IP Client authenticates securely with the added benefit of RSA authentication.
  • Use of strong 128-bit NDS/RSA authentication, including background authentication, is one of the biggest benefits of using the Prosoft Native IP Client.
