FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:
PROSOFT Engineering's Brings Macintosh Connectivity to BrainShare '99!
BrainShare USA '99 - Salt Lake City -- February 21 - 26, 1999
Macintosh Connectivity was on the agenda for the first time
in a long time at Novell's BrainShare '99 in Salt Lake City. PROSOFT Engineering hosted a
tutorial session demonstrating new Macintosh NetWare Connectivity Solutions to a standing
room only crowd in the first of two sessions. "The fact that we filled the room with
200 plus interested attendees proves that Macintosh connectivity is important to NetWare
customers," said Ken Freeman, Product Marketing Manager for PROSOFT Engineering.
Edward Lopez, Senior Support Manager at PROSOFT Engineering
walked people through the new NetWare 5 AppleTalk Services, highlighting those areas where
people have typically had the most problems with the previous versions of NetWare for
Macintosh NLMs. PROSOFT Engineering plans to create a more robust installer that ensures a
proper installation of all the NLMs and prompts users for specific settings, saving
install time and assisting those less familiar with AppleTalk.
Many attendees expressed their desire for future products
including a native IP client, AppleShare/IP NLMs, Z.E.N. Works Client for Mac, Novell
Application Launcher, and an updated GroupWise Client for Mac. PROSOFT Engineering must
first focus on the three objectives given by Novell, 1) a new MacIPX client optimized for
the modern Mac OS 8.5 and Apple G3 computers (this is resolved with the new NetWare Client
5.12 for Mac OS), 2) NetWare for Macintosh for NetWare 5, which has been renamed
"NetWare 5 AppleTalk Services" (Planned for Beta release in April 1999), 3)
Native IP solutions for NetWare 5, namely a pure IP Client for NetWare 5 and AppleTalk/IP
NLMs (planned for a "First Look" late summer 1999). These are the first steps to
building Robust Macintosh NetWare Connectivity Solutions!
The next logical step is a Z.E.N. Works like product for the
Macintosh. PROSOFT Engineering recognizes the need for this type of product but must
complete our first objectives before focusing efforts on a Z.E.N. Works like product for
Mac.
As for a new GroupWise client for Mac, our contract with
Novell does not include any work on GroupWise. Novell is currently researching how to best
service their GroupWise for Mac customers. PROSOFT Engineering has the Mac expertise and
resources to develop a new GroupWise client and would like to get that opportunity. If a
new GroupWise for Mac client is important to you let your Novell rep know that you are
committed to Macintosh, will be buying more Macintosh computers and must have an updated,
feature equal Macintosh client.
