First of all...thanks, your product saved my butt.
Second - just wanted to report that the version I used DID WORK on a
Xserve RAID - level 5 - 860gb. RAID set was there, but no volume/needed initialization. Even though your documentation dismissed that option...I had nothing to lose by trying, and it worked!! - I was able to recognize and recover the ENTIRE raid - of about 650,000 files- only about 600 reported some corruption. I was surprised, as the documentation stated that RAID support was not feature that the product performed. After many hours of thourough searching my RAID, I was able to see and recover files - changing the program pref so that "ignore paritions" was checked and unchecking "log extra inf to report" gave the best result. (5 hours scan for first time...failed saying too many files, changed prefs and tried again---last effort, last hope before chalking up the loss and re-initializing...5 hours later I had a good scan and was able to offload files to some FW disks, reinitialize, and copy files back) Took all of my weekend, but great results. Of the files that reported corruption, the ONLY common thing that I could find was the bad files were all pre-tagged with the OSX finder labels (normally I don't use them...but sometimes.....) - they (the labels) seemed to somehow render the file as bad when recovered. Thanks so much!!! TOP of my disk utils now - and recommended to as many folk as I can now Michael Caufman - Homewood Press Inc. (http://www.homewoodpress.com) |
