Changing Ownership and Permissions of Recovered Files in Data Rescue 3

Today I helped a customer that was using Data Rescue 3 to recover data from an external hard drive that he could not access. He had ran a Deep Scan on the drive and had recovered some of the files but when he went to open the files he would get permissions errors. This can happen when the original drive was experiencing file ownership or permissions problems.

I guided him to the Data Rescue 3 Recovery Preferences in the Scan Engine tab where he could edit the Change ownership and Permissions promotion settings to “For all items”. By changing these settings it will make sure that he has ownership and permissions for all of the files that he is recovering. After he attempted the recovery again he was able to open his files successfully and was very happy to have his files back.

I'm Jeremy and I have been with Prosoft as a Technical Support Representative for over a year and it has been very rewarding helping customers recover lost data as well as maintain their hard drives and backups. Data Recovery can be difficult and confusing so many of our customers really appreciate having a helping hand throughout the process. Outside of work I enjoy playing basketball, football, hiking, and rock climbing.
